Students to Scholars — a nonprofit that helps promising middle school students from under-resourced communities access high-quality education — is seeking a Social Media Manager to support our mission.


Role: Social Media Manager (Volunteer)

Reports to: Executive Director

Time Commitment: 4–6 hours per week (flexible schedule)


Responsibilities include:

Creating and scheduling engaging content across Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn Collaborating with the Executive Director on campaigns and messaging Showcasing student stories, events, and donor impact Monitoring engagement and tracking basic analytics


Ideal candidate:

Strong writing and communication skills Familiarity with social media platforms and basic graphic design tools (e.g., Canva) Creative, reliable, and able to work independently Passionate about education equity and youth development

The Students to Scholars Board of Directors is looking for a Treasurer. The Treasurer will be responsible for downloading bank and credit card charges, reconciling our account, preparing a monthly report for a monthly board meeting and serving on the Fundraising Committee. Board meetings and committee meetings meet virtually once a month each during the work week (Monday-Friday) for an hour.

This volunteer position is an academic year-long commitment from September through May. The work is completely remote and no transportation is required.

We are looking for volunteers with a passion for education, equity in education, and making a positive change in the lives of students from historically under-resourced and marginalized communities.

Do you love helping kids succeed on homework? Are you excited about helping kids catch up to their peers academically? Then Academic Coaching (tutoring) could be for you! Students to Scholars is seeking Academic Coaches to work with our students. Academic Coaches work in-person or virtually with a 3rd-5th grader at least once per week to study math and/or reading. Each coaching session is one-on-one and lasts about an hour. Most in person sessions take place at one of the Durham Boys and Girls Clubs between 3:30pm and 5:30pm.  Virtual sessions are arranged at a time that works for the student's schedule and the tutor's schedule.

Students to Scholars is looking for NCCU faculty and staff to serve as a guest speaker at our monthly Success and Support Event, which is for the 6th through 8th graders in our program. The purpose of the Success and Support Program is to inspire our students to pursue their dreams and go to college by introducing them to high-achieving professionals from a wide-rage of careers and backgrounds.

The Success and Support Event takes place on the third or fourth Wednesday of every month from 7pm-8pm ET via Zoom. 

The guest speaker will talk with the students for about 20-25 minutes on a particular theme of their choice.  Past workshop themes have included passion, trailblazing, goal-setting, and community service. The presentation is very informal and will most likely be structured as a conversation/Q&A session with the students.
