Volunteer: VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: NCCU STUDENTS, OUR YOUTH NEED YOU!NCCU students are invited to join GRACED, Inc. for a powerful youth-led community conversation with Durham Mayor Leo Williams about reducing gun violence in our community. Durham’s recent Gun Violence Reduction Summit centered much of the City’s current focus on Black men age 30 and older. While that population deserves meaningful support, our youth—who are already experiencing trauma, fear, loss and early exposure to violence—cannot continue waiting for the prevention, mentoring and intervention services they need. Our youth are crying out for support. Crime is also impacting NCCU’s campus, reminding us that this crisis affects the entire Durham community. As a result, Gemaeka Smith, NCCU Student & Gun Violence Survivor, will help lead this conversation with GRACED, Inc's Teen Leaders. NCCU students have an opportunity to show our future leaders that they are seen, heard and supported before another generation is lost to violence. When: Friday, September 4, 2026 Student volunteers will support our youth by contributing to the conversation, encouraging our youth leaders, and helping us create a welcoming and supportive environment.
