Volunteer: Spring Semester Study Buddies

Families Moving Forward is seeking dedicated volunteers to join our Study Buddy tutoring program. Each week, Monday-Thursday from 5:00pm until 6:00pm we provide an hour of one-on-one academic support for the school-aged children in shelter at FMF. Volunteers are asked to help with reading, writing, mathmatics and other skills to help our kiddos maintain their grades and build acdemic confidence!

Volunteers must be at least 18 years or older and pass a background check before coming on-site.

Volunteer: Childcare Volunteer

Major Objectives: Assist Early Childhood Specialist and FMF staff with monitoring and oversight of children (6 months - 4 years) while parents are attending evening programming.

Qualifications: Volunteers must meet the following qualifications to be considered for this opportunity

At least 18 years or older – not currently enrolled in Durham Public/Charter schools Trustworthy  Agree to a criminal background check   Comfortable working with children Comfortable working in a residential setting with individuals experiencing homelessness Access to reliable transportation to and from Families Moving Forward 

Time Commitment

Weekly commitment; One night Monday - Thursday evenings; 6:00pm-7:00pm; arrive at least 10-15 minutes early for set-up.

Specific Duties:  

Engage infants, toddlers and preschoolers in general or structured play  Create the program curriculum; as requested, for children between the ages of 6 months- 4 years Keep playroom space clean before and after the children arrive for programming  Set up room/clean up room for daily activities Inform staff of issues or concerns regarding children  Provide positive reinforcement and promote healthy, non-violent behaviors  Follow all agency policies and procedures  Maintain confidentiality, dignity, empowerment and respect with all clients, staff and volunteers of FMF
