Volunteer: Iron Breaking Volunteers Needed

We are looking for volunteers to help us prepare for our biggest event of the year! On Tuesdays, from 5:00 to 8:00pm, come to Liberty Arts to participate in Iron Breaking.

Liberty Arts' 9th Annual Iron Pour is coming up on November 15th, 2025. In order to run an Iron Pour, our organization needs dozens of buckets of chip-sized pieces of iron. We receive larger pieces of iron through donations (radiators, bathtubs, etc) and these need to be broken down into small pieces. These small pieces of iron will be melted to create metal sculptures during our 9th Annual Iron Pour.

This volunteer opportunity is a physical activity. You'll be smashing metal scrap using hammers! We provide safety gear (glasses, face shields, and shoe coverings), but ask that you wear thicker clothing like denim, and closed-toe shoes/boots.

This opportunity is a great stress reliever. Take out some of your frustrations and support the arts all at once!

Greetings Life Changer,

Do you have what it takes to uplift and empower teens to elevate their esteem, make good decisions, and obtain leadership skills? If so, we are looking for positive role models to impact the hearts of youth who are enrolled in our afterschool program?

Are you looking for an environment to cultivate your skills as an emerging clinician in the field of social work and/or Mental Health? If so, Purpose Learning Lab , Inc is the place for you to tap into your inner community & behavioral health skills. We just launched our second licensed Mental Health Office "The Empress Haven, PLLC" in Durham , NC and we would love to have you a part of our internship team as my passion is to provide education, guidance, and support to emerging scholars who are passionate about this field.

This program offers the opportunity for students to enhance their knowledge and experiences learned through their non-paid experiential learning experiences.

We invite you to help us change the world as we provide Mental Health Services to underserved and rural Communities where care can be the most scarce.

Please email Mya @purposelearninglab@gmail.com for more information.

Volunteer: Afternoon Reading Club FALL 2025- Help Us Change the World!!!!

Welcome to Purpose Learning Lab Literacy Program,

The reading buddies program allows older students the opportunity to develop fluency as well as a sense of pride in their accomplishments. In addition, they often come to see the value of reading. Students can not only promote good practices but gain self-esteem. Repeatedly reading easier books has been shown to improve reading abilities in poor readers, and this program provides students with a reason to read easier books.

Reading to younger students can help them develop a love of reading and a greater motivation to read. Younger students should also read to their older buddies each week, as this allows younger readers to feel a sense of accomplishment while they build fluency. Because the program provides success in literacy, students often become more positive about their ability to read and may also improve their reading skills. Ideally, buddy visits will be ongoing, and older and younger students will become familiar with one another and nurture a mutual interest in reading.

Volunteer: Mental Health Advocacy and Well-being-MHFA

The NCCU Counseling Center provides opportunities throughout the year to encourage our campus community to become advocates of mental health well-being. Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is one of the ways students, faculty, and staff members can learn approaches to help others.

MHFA training provides effective ways to respond to someone experiencing a mental health problem or emergency and connect them to appropriate resources. Attendees learn to recognize the signs of disruption that may occur for a specific problem or as an ongoing concern. Students can earn service hours by completing this training. The 2-hour self-paced module and pre-work must be completed before attending the remaining part of the training that is in-person (ILT).

Registration is open to current NCCU administrators, faulty, staff, and students, and community members. Registration is at a tiered cost. The following link is for registering for the course separate from adding the service opportunity once the training is completed, https://forms.gle/pti1YAQMdEk4V4Eb8.

Mentor-Tutors should plan to miss no more than 3 sessions per semester. One unexcused absence (no notice or late notice) will lead to being put on a notice of potential disciplinary action. Volunteer: SCHOOL DAYS 2025: MIDDLE SCHOOLER COLLEGE EXPLORATION

“School Days” is a powerful volunteer opportunity to support young people at a pivotal moment in their academic journey. The event brings 300 “future first-gen” 8th-grade students from Durham Public Schools to Duke University for a day of exploration, connection, and inspiration. The purpose of the event is to help Durham middle school students, who may one day be the first in their families to attend college, envision a future that includes college, whether at Duke, NCCU, Durham Technical Community College, or other institutions in the region.

Volunteers from Duke and NCCU will play a key role in creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that demonstrates college life, as the 8th graders tour Duke’s campus and residence halls; participate in fun, age-appropriate activities; and engage in informal conversations about the college experience. From sharing lunch to leading small-group explorations, volunteers help make the idea of higher education real, personal, and achievable.

Volunteer: Technology Assistant Teacher - Thursday Mornings

The Durham Center for Senior Life (DCSL) is looking for volunteers who would be interested in helping support our Thursday morning tech programming. Every Thursday from 9am-11am we run "Just Ask George" a one-on-one tech support program where DCSL members can drop in to get help with their phones, email, setting up accounts online, and more.

For this role, we are looking for volunteers who would shadow George and help provide one-on-one tech support. Most of the questions members come with are on the basic technology side, such as how to attach photos to a text, how to download a document from an email, etc. We have over 10 desktop computers connected to ethernet that you can use with the members to demonstrate things or to look up information yourself, that would help you answer member questions, so you do not need to provide any materials. This is a great opportunity to help older adults become more tech savvy and independent while working with a fun and interesting group of people.

After completing one assistant shift, interested volunteers are welcome to work with the programs team to desin and run run their own special tech presentations on topics such as Google storage, A.I. , Social Media, streaming services, etc..
