Join the Black Genius Fest On Saturday, February 28, 2026, we’re gathering on Parrish Street — the heart of Durham’s Black Wall Street — to celebrate Black genius, joy, and 100 years of Black History Month from11:00 AM – 5:00 PM. And we need the village to help us hold it down. We’re inviting you to volunteer for Black Genius Fest 2026. This isn’t just an event—it’s a space where families feel welcomed, creativity is honored, and Black brilliance is experienced out loud. Time commitment Volunteers serve in 3-hour shifts between 6am-7pm (we’ll match you to a role and time block based on your availability and festival needs). Volunteer Benefits As a Volunteer, for your contributions, you will receive: Snacks and drinks during your shift A discount on Black Genius Fest merchandise Black Genius Responsibilities Your duties as a volunteer may include: Passing out flyers and putting up posters to publicize the event Checking in, ushering and directing attendees throughout the event Assisting the performers/contributors backstage with various tasks Setting up the event and assisting contributors with creation of their displays Support load-in, tent/table placement, signage, and end-of-day breakdown so the festival can open and close smoothly Communicating and taking direction from the event organizers to ensure the event runs smoothly Jump in where needed—support exhibitors, help families navigate, and troubleshoot small issues as they come up Notifying contributors and speakers of their upcoming stage time so the program runs smoothly Assist with microphones, speakers, screens, and basic A/V support throughout the day Capture moments, support social posting, and help document the day with care and consent Cleaning up after the event and assisting contributors with take down of their displays Help maintain joyful energy—greeting folks, guiding the flow, and keeping the vibe high and welcoming Join us for this significant event!
