Major Objectives: Assist Early Childhood Specialist and FMF staff with monitoring and oversight of children (6 months - 4 years) while parents are attending evening programming.
Qualifications: Volunteers must meet the following qualifications to be considered for this opportunity
- At least 18 years or older – not currently enrolled in Durham Public/Charter schools
- Trustworthy
- Agree to a criminal background check
- Comfortable working with children
- Comfortable working in a residential setting with individuals experiencing homelessness
- Access to reliable transportation to and from Families Moving Forward
Time Commitment
Weekly commitment; One night Monday - Thursday evenings; 6:00pm-7:00pm; arrive at least 10-15 minutes early for set-up.
Specific Duties:
- Engage infants, toddlers and preschoolers in general or structured play
- Create the program curriculum; as requested, for children between the ages of 6 months- 4 years
- Keep playroom space clean before and after the children arrive for programming
- Set up room/clean up room for daily activities
- Inform staff of issues or concerns regarding children
- Provide positive reinforcement and promote healthy, non-violent behaviors
- Follow all agency policies and procedures
- Maintain confidentiality, dignity, empowerment and respect with all clients, staff and volunteers of FMF
