Role Description:

As a volunteer for student access and success, your primary responsibility will be to support students in overcoming barriers to education and ensuring their success in their academic journey. This role involves a variety of tasks and responsibilities, including but not limited to:

Join the Emerge Center’s Annual Meeting as a student volunteer and make a meaningful impact through marketing, education support, and nonprofit aid. Volunteers will assist in promoting event engagement through social media and outreach efforts, support educational initiatives by helping with session coordination and materials, and contribute to the center’s nonprofit mission by providing logistical aid and assisting with community-driven projects. Your dedication will help amplify our mission, ensuring a successful and impactful event for all attendees!

Briggs Ave Community Garden is an agriculture education space owned by the North Carolina Agriculture Foundation at NCSU. We are an Extension program offering applied food and nutrition education with a seed to table approach. We teach families how to grow food for themselves and others using USDA Organic methods following food safety from the garden to the table. 30% of the food we grow is donated to Durham Technical Community College pantry.

Role Description: As a volunteer for the SAS Office, your primary responsibility will be to support the office with Administrative Assistance and Exam Proctoring duties. This role involves a variety of tasks and responsibilities, including but not limited to: Answering phone calls and walk in questions; Assist with Administrative tasks as making copies, small errands, etc.; Proctoring students that are taking exams at the office, assist with reading exams or scribing as needed; Advocacy: Advocate for students' needs and rights within the educational system, working to remove barriers to access and promote inclusivity and equity.

The Students to Scholars Board of Directors is looking for a Treasurer. The Treasurer will be responsible for downloading bank and credit card charges, reconciling our account, preparing a monthly report for a monthly board meeting and serving on the Fundraising Committee. Board meetings and committee meetings meet virtually once a month each during the work week (Monday-Friday) for an hour.

This volunteer position is an academic year-long commitment from September through May. The work is completely remote and no transportation is required.

VillageHERs is a StrongHER TogetHER program that removes barriers to extracurricular learning for girls in our program. The program supports various activities including sports, STEM, camps, lessons, SAT/ACT test preparation and so more! Check out more information on our (2) five month sessions here!

Mentors work 1:1 with mentors, helping them find suitable activities and supporting them with extracurricular learning goals and post-graduation planning. Time commitment: 3-5 hours per month. The next VillageHERs session begins August 2024 and runs through Dec 2024. We hope to have Mentors in place by July 1st for this session. Volunteers are crucial to the operation of the Museum of Durham History as we provide programs and experiences to Durham residents and visitors. Do you love helping kids succeed on homework? Are you excited about helping kids catch up to their peers academically? Then Academic Coaching (tutoring) could be for you! Students to Scholars is seeking Academic Coaches to work with our students. Academic Coaches work in-person or virtually with a 3rd-5th grader at least once per week to study math and/or reading. Each coaching session is one-on-one and lasts about an hour. Most in person sessions take place at one of the Durham Boys and Girls Clubs between 3:30pm and 5:30pm.  Virtual sessions are arranged at a time that works for the student's schedule and the tutor's schedule. 

The Students to Scholars Board of Directors is looking for people with diverse talents to serve on a board committee where their ideas, participation, engagement, contributions, advice, and input will be immensely valued. The board committees include the following: Governance (addressing legal questions, strategic planning, board recruitment); Finance & Fundraising; Special Events, and Programs (to develop new programs and review existing programs).

Students to Scholars is looking for NCCU faculty and staff to serve as a guest speaker at our monthly Success and Support Event, which is for the 6th through 8th graders in our program. The purpose of the Success and Support Program is to inspire our students to pursue their dreams and go to college by introducing them to high-achieving professionals from a wide-rage of careers and backgrounds.

The Success and Support Event takes place on the third or fourth Wednesday of every month from 7pm-8pm ET via Zoom. 

The guest speaker will talk with the students for about 20-25 minutes on a particular theme of their choice.  Past workshop themes have included passion, trailblazing, goal-setting, and community service. The presentation is very informal and will most likely be structured as a conversation/Q&A session with the students. We are looking for NCCU faculty and staff to share about their lives and careers in education (and other domains) in and engaging, fun format.

Purpose: SAS Event Volunteers help create an inclusive and welcoming environment at SAS-sponsored events. They assist with event setup, ensure accessibility accommodations, and contribute to a positive experience for all participants.

Key Responsibilities:

• Preparation: Set up event spaces, arrange seating, signage, and materials, and ensure accessibility features are ready.

• Guest Support: Greet attendees, provide directions, and answer basic questions or refer to staff as needed.

• Event Operations: Distribute materials, assist with accommodations, participate in activities (e.g., student panels), and monitor for issues.

• Breakdown: Clean up, pack materials, and dismantle accessibility setups.

The TRiO Access Peer Academic Leader Program (PALs) provides first year and transfer students with peer mentors to aid in their successful transition to NC Central University. PALs meet one-on-one mentees twice a semester, host events and socials, and connect students to campus resources. PALs also aid in the administration of the Summer Access Program, a 4-week virtual enrichment Program for incoming first year and transfer students who have a documented diagnosis or is first-generation and/or from a limited-income background.

Ship Outreach Center in Raleigh is in need of volunteers for Homework Club at Ship Leadership Academy.

The Homework Club provides free tutoring for school-aged children grades 1-12. Volunteers help students with various subjects, homework assignments, and test preparation.

This individual will be a self-starter, able to work independently and in teams.  This individual is creative and able to "run" in a non-traditional setting.  This individual will question the norm or past processes, they are able to keep and create records.  

The Technician Assistant (TA) program at the Duke Lemur Center began in 2008 and is designed to give students and the public an opportunity to volunteer their time and be involved in the husbandry of lemurs. TAs assist full-time Primate Technicians with a variety of animal care tasks, including diet preparation, cleaning of animal areas, development of enrichment, behavioral observations, and daily upkeep of the facility. Our TA volunteers are an invaluable resource for the center and include undergraduate, and graduate students, as well as professional and retired members of the community.

Requirements to become a Technician Assistant:

Commitment to work one 4-hour shift each week for a minimum of 6 months
Results of TB test that has been administered within a year of start date
Proof of MMR Vaccine
Proof of current health insurance
Age 18 or above

ProjectSAFE volunteers will participate in ongoing testing events, education, and other activities related to helping students understand and be proactive about their sexual health.

Volunteers will assist with similar organizations in their pursuit of expanding education and STI/HIV testing, awareness, and education for community members and grant opportunities related to sexual health. 

Additionally, volunteers will distribute condoms campus wide to help support our grant and increase access to condoms for our students.

The Blood Transportation Specialist position is a rewarding opportunity to deliver lifesaving blood product to the patients that need it. Liberty Hospice provides quality care and comfort to our clients and their families in a critical time of their lives. We are currently seeking patient/family volunteers to assist in providing care and understanding to the patient and family, make visits at regular intervals as per plan of care, and maintain confidentiality. Our patients reside at home and facilities throughout the Triangle Area.  We cover counties such as Wake, Durham, Vance, Granville, Person, and surrounding areas. The ideal volunteer would have good listening and communication skills, have respect for the hospice philosophy, and be willing to work as a team member. Purpose Learning Lab, Inc is seeking a seasoned fundraiser to join our tight-knit team. In this role, you will use your expert communication skills and keen sense of initiative to spot fundraising opportunities, develop relationships with potential donors, and manage fundraising campaigns. By coordinating events, writing proposals, and recruiting and leading volunteers, you will hone your speaking, writing, and leadership abilities while moving Purpose Learning Lab closer to its financial goals.

Volunteer will perform a variety of tasks at the Campus Echo student newspaper. This may include office work, reporting and writing news stories, shooting photographs and/or video, story, photo and video editing.

The Library Page position works with the Access Services Department to assist with stack maintenance, which includes shelving books, reading shelves, shifting books and doing inventory. And other library tasks as assigned.

Provide Administrative support to the Executive Director of Leaders for Tomorrow, Youth arm of the National Black MBA Association.

Administrative support is setting up and sending out communication for the youth, parents and volunteers.  

Preparing Agendas, powerpoints and materials for the 2nd Saturday of the month meetings. 

Updating databases and sending out timely communication of the updates to the Board, youth, parents and/or volunteers.

Other Administrative duties as necessary. 

We are looking for students to help volunteer for our k-8th afterschool program.

Task is to manage the parking situation during the jummah prayers.

There are 4 shifts, sometimes 3 that occur every friday.

Your task will be to give guidance to those coming to the mosque by pointing them in the direction where there are availible parking spots. 

Overtime we will try and add different volunteering opportunities, for now this is one which we have every week and will be happy to have people come again and again, please feel free to bring as many others as you can.

Join the Purpose Learning Lab, Inc marketing team as video production intern and put your creative talents to work in multiple areas of the video production process. As the video production intern, you will exercise your creative skills & multitasking abilities as you assist in developing ideas, filming pieces, and editing takes. The Public Relations and Marketing Person is responsible for creating exposure opportunities for the Leaders of Tomorrow organization which is the youth arm of the National Black MBA Association.  A National Organization with over 33 Chapters across the United States.  

This outgoing, take charge, person will be responsible to help put together a strategy for the organization that has the organization visible in all middle schools and high schools.  Focused on creating media opportunities with radio, television, print ads, and social media.
