Volunteer: Afternoon Reading Club FALL 2025-2026- Help Us Change the World!!!!Welcome to Purpose Learning Lab Literacy Program, The reading buddies program allows older students the opportunity to develop fluency as well as a sense of pride in their accomplishments. In addition, they often come to see the value of reading. Students can not only promote good practices but gain self-esteem. Repeatedly reading easier books has been shown to improve reading abilities in poor readers, and this program provides students with a reason to read easier books. Reading to younger students can help them develop a love of reading and a greater motivation to read. Younger students should also read to their older buddies each week, as this allows younger readers to feel a sense of accomplishment while they build fluency. Because the program provides success in literacy, students often become more positive about their ability to read and may also improve their reading skills. Ideally, buddy visits will be ongoing, and older and younger students will become familiar with one another and nurture a mutual interest in reading. 2025-2026 Winter/ Spring Hours Mondays 2:00-6:0pm Tuesdays 2:00-6:0pm Wednesdays 2:00-6:0pm Thursdays 2:00-6:00pm Fridays Mentorship Hours 2:00-6:00pm Saturday 9:00-12:00pm (Starts 2/1/25)2026- 2027 Summer Hours Monday-Friday 8:00-6:00pm (June- August)If interested, please contact Mya McMillian at purposelearninglab@gmail.com Volunteer Overview: Volunteers must be able to do the following: Should be comfortable working one-on-one with students with diverse disabilities Strong commitment to community service Previous experience working with young children preferred Ability to work well with a diverse population of people Must have reliable transportation Must be willing to cleanWe offer a number of hands on innovative learning labs and we would love for you to demonstrate your skills. Volunteer: Afternoon Reading Club- Help Us Change the World!!!!Welcome to Purpose Learning Lab Literacy Program, The reading buddies program allows older students the opportunity to develop fluency as well as a sense of pride in their accomplishments. 2023-2024 Winter/ Spring Hours Mondays 2:00-6:0pm Tuesdays 2:00-6:0pm Wednesdays 2:00-6:0pm Thursdays 2:00-6:00pm Fridays Mentorship Hours 2:00-6:00pm2024 Summer Hours Monday-Friday 8:00-6:00pm (June- August)If interested, please contact Nia Terry at purposelearninglab@gmail.com or Mya McMillian at purposelearninglab@gmail.com Volunteer Overview: Volunteers must be able to do the following: Should be comfortable working one-on-one with students with diverse disabilities Strong commitment to community service Previous experience working with young children preferred Ability to work well with a diverse population of people Must have reliable transportation Must be willing to clean
