Black Girls for Liberation (BGfL) is an organization dedicated to nurturing Black girls through advocacy, education, and identity development. Through monthly programming, engaging curricula, and community service, we aim to cultivate a supportive community where Black girls can flourish.

Volunteer Opportunities: We are seeking passionate college students to join us in this transformative work.

Volunteers will:

Research Initiatives: Conduct research on Black girlhood and cultural identity development to inform our work and expand understanding in this field.

Social Media Support: Assist with creating, editing, and posting content that highlights our programs, events, and impact.

Video Production: Support in filming, editing, and uploading short videos to share the stories and voices of Black girls and our community.

Time Commitment: 5–10 hours per month, with opportunities to grow based on interest and availability. We welcome college sophomores, juniors, and seniors from any discipline with a passion for supporting Black girls and a commitment to equity and advocacy.

Our modeling troupes and Ball organization will be performing and other folks will have a chance to walk the stage also.  We need volunteers to check people in, host, be runners, and serve food.

We are seeking 10 volunteers (males & females) for the National Night Out event to be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, from 4:00 pm – 6:30 PM at Weaver Street Recreation Center 3000 Weaver Street, Durham, NC 27707. 

Volunteers will assist with youth field day activities for youth ages 5–17. Volunteers will help to manage activities such as relay races, tug-of-war, kickball, and other fun field day games.

This year, The City of Durham - Office on Youth is providing supplies for the field day activities and competitions organized in various age-groups. Each group will be split into two teams, and volunteers will help lead and manage the activities (at least two volunteers per age group).

Volunteers should wear comfortable outdoor clothing and closed-toe shoes, as you will be actively engaging with the children. Your support will help keep the event organized, safe, and fun for everyone.

The NNO field day activities will be located in the field near the Weaver Street Recreation Center. Note that parking is limited as the Recreation Center will also be used as a voting site that day for the Durham Primary Election.

Set-up time for the event will be between 3:15 pm – 3:45 pm.

On behalf of the Office of Health Promotion and Education and the Counseling Center at North Carolina Central University, we are excited to announce the launch of the Harm Reduction Series in collaboration with the Durham County Department of Public Health.

This series is designed to ensure students are equipped with the knowledge and steps to take when it comes to preventing and responding to overdoses. The first session will be held on Wednesday, October 1st, at 5:30 PM in the AE Student Union Lobby. January 28, 2026, and  March 18, 2026 are 2 dates for the series. Be sure to attend.

SHC and Department of Nursing Fall 2025 Flu Clinic

Location: School of Nursing, 2nd Floor. Need assistance with setting up and breaking down 

THIS SERVICE OPPORTUNITY IS FOR TRIO SSS STUDENTS ONLY

Volunteers will lead a guided tour for a gourp from Baltimore on a tour of NCCU. Volunteers will provide information about NCCU, and about life at NCCU, during the campus tour and answer questions from the group.  The group will be 10 students and 2 chaperones.

Join In Her Strength in collaboration with National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) to write encouraging messages to women undergoing breast cancer treatments. Volunteers will complete 150 cards.

Breaking down tents, cleaning up materials, packing trailers. ADDITIONAL hours guaranteed due to late night time of shift. 

We have monthly co-ops on the third Thursday of every month where we provide fresh produce, meat and dried goods to the public. It is 100% free for anyone to come and pick up food. You will be helping with distribution. Distribution will consist of helping at the stations for people to take what they need.

Welcome to Purpose Learning Lab Literacy Program,

The reading buddies program allows older students the opportunity to develop fluency as well as a sense of pride in their accomplishments. In addition, they often come to see the value of reading. Students can not only promote good practices but gain self-esteem. Repeatedly reading easier books has been shown to improve reading abilities in poor readers, and this program provides students with a reason to read easier books.

Reading to younger students can help them develop a love of reading and a greater motivation to read. Younger students should also read to their older buddies each week, as this allows younger readers to feel a sense of accomplishment while they build fluency. Because the program provides success in literacy, students often become more positive about their ability to read and may also improve their reading skills. Ideally, buddy visits will be ongoing, and older and younger students will become familiar with one another and nurture a mutual interest in reading.

Volunteers for this event will help transport materials to the site, set up the table, and clean up after the event. Durham CARES Mentoring Movement is recruiting volunteer mentors to work in a one hour group mentoring session at local Middle and High Schools in Durham.  Volunteers must attend 2 one hour training sessions, submit a volunteer form for a background check to work in Durham Public School.  New mentors are recruited based on current needs.  We are currently recruiting for male mentors. 

Additionally, we are in need of a Photographer and Videographer to help us celebrate our four year at Jordan High School and the graduation of mentees that have been with us since 9th grade.

On Sunday, October 5th, from noon until 4pm Bike Durham is co-hosting Move-A-Bull City Open Streets event with the County Public Health Department's Partnership for a Healthy Durham and the City of Durham's Transportation department. For the whole time the stretch of Blackwell, Corcoran, and Foster Streets between Morehead Ave and Trinity Avenue will be protected for people walking, biking, and rolling and closed to car traffic. 

We'll have more than 100 activity partners with fun for all ages, and we're working to attract upwards of 5,000 attendees. See more about the event at moveabull.org

We need lots of volunteers at all the intersections to welcome attendees and to keep them safe.

Lead a campus supply drive from start to finish—plan the timeline, promote the drive, manage collection points, and coordinate pickup. The drive can be for clothing, food items, school supplies, hygiene products, children's toys, or winter coats, gloves and hats.
