As a Floor Lead, you'll play a pivotal role in managing seamless in-house meal delivery operations, ensuring inside helpers provide volunteer drives with the necessary meals and items to provide excellent service to our senior clients!

To be eligible for this volunteer position, we kindly request a commitment to serving as Floor Lead for recurring shifts on Mondays and/or Tuesdays over a 90-day period.

In addition, all prospective Floor Leads are required to complete the following onboarding task prior to scheduling their Floor Lead shift.

 

Completion of Shifts:

Complete 3 Inside Helper shifts. Complete 2 Meal Delivery Driving shifts. Complete 2 Shadowing shifts with either a seasoned Floor Lead or a Volunteer Services Coordinator/Associate. (this part will be completed last)

Completing the onboarding requirements will enable you to familiarize yourself with the organization and better support other volunteers in your role as a Floor Lead.

We are currently seeking volunteers to join our team as On-Call Drivers, making a positive impact on the lives of Durham seniors

On-Call Driver Requirements:

 

Availability:  Adopt a recurring On-Call Driver shift for a 90-day period, with flexible options offered either once a week or once a month. Availability during weekdays between 9:00 am - 1:00 pm Eligibility: Have completed at least three (3) volunteer driver shifts

As an On-Call Driver, you will have the opportunity to step in when our weekday schedule drivers are unavailable, ensuring that our Durham seniors continue to receive the meals they rely on. Right now we are looking for individuals available Thursdays and Fridays to join the team!

 

 

Meals on Wheels Durham offers a variety of volunteer opportunities to make lasting impacts on older adults in the community. You can delivers meals—and smiles—to clients each weekday, help pack and load meals onto delivery vehicles, or even check in on seniors in the comfort of your own home. We have something for everybody!

Meals on Wheels of Durham is seeking volunteers to make phone calls to our home-bound senior clients.

Call our seniors in Durham. You can call from anyplace you have access to the internet and a computer.

Calls are made on Wednesdays and/or Fridays from your remote location. You will receive that day's "Wellness Sheet" via email at 8am. Calls can be made between 9am and noon. Each route averages 60 minutes (10-14 clients). Sign up for up to 3 routes per day. 

Wednesday Wellness Calls: On Wednesday, you will be collecting information from clients regarding their weekly delivery. It is so important for MOWD to know if clients can be home and to remind clients the importance of being home during their delivery! This directly supports our ability to order the correct amount of food while also ensuring as many of our current clients are being served the best way possible! This is also the last day our clients can cancel their meals.  Friday Wellness Calls: Think of this as ‘FUN Friday!’. On Friday you will be connecting with clients and checking in on them. This is a great way to encourage relationship building and is something that our clients look forward to!

Serve with Meals on Wheels!

Unloaders will arrive at the MOWD office at 8am prior to our delivery truck arriving. Unloaders will be grouped together to unload 500-700 boxes weighing 5-10lbs. Unloaders work together to unload the vehicle in a timely, safe and fun manner. While boxes are being unloaded, unloaders continue to work together to stage boxes for the day’s delivery. This is a more labor intensive volunteer opportunity that will replace your gym session for the day! This position requires determination and strong communication skills to work with a highly diverse group of people!

The opportunity is available Monday-Friday from 8am-9am.

Delivery loaders utilize MOWD-provided carts to bring the route meals from the office to volunteer driver vehicles in the parking lot.

The opportunity is available Monday-Friday from 8am-11am.

Inside helpers assist with various operational tasks during meal distribution. The opportunity is available Monday-Friday from 8am-11am.

Deliver hot meals to seniors in Durham. We have delivery routes throughout Durham county. You can deliver by yourself, with a friend, with your pet, or with a group.

Available Monday to Friday. Arrive to MOWD facilities (2522 Ross Rd Durham) to pick up meals between 9:30 am - 10:30 am and allow 1.5 - 2 hours for delivery. Volunteers can get scheduled to come once a week, once a month, or as often as they would like. Must use or have access to a vehicle and gas to make deliveries. Must also be able to download and use our Mobile Meals app to navigate your routes.
