Who We Are

Founded in 1949, DCSL has a 75-year legacy of serving older adults in the Durham community. Today, DCSL is designated by the State of North Carolina as a Center of Excellence. We are a dedicated team of staff and volunteers who believe in the importance of community and healthy living to improve the lives of older adults. We are driven by a vision of a community where older adults of all backgrounds can thrive. DCSL is a 501(c)(3) organization and we rely on people like you to lead and design programs, support our administrative team, and build connections with our members.

What We Do

The Durham Center for Senior Life is a nonprofit that serves over 200 older adults each day through a variety of free programs, services, events and more. Our mission is to enrich the lives of older adults (55+) by promoting healthy, active, and independent lifestyles. We achieve this by offering free weekly and monthly exercise classes, arts classes, social groups, clubs, and special presentations on technology, history, health and sciences. Additionally, our Support Services Department connects members to legal, housing, and financial resources and provide monthly food and household items to older adults in need. Check out our digital newsletter online to see the whole scope of what we offer!
