We are Durham citizens with various backgrounds and professions who are committed to ensuring that the legacy of Geer Cemetery is not lost by honoring the lives and legacies of those laid to rest in this sacred place through preservation, storytelling, education, and community-building
What We Do
The Friends of Geer Cemetery is non-profit organization established to bring awareness and maintain Geer Cemetery which is an historic African American cemetery. Our activities include:
- Restoration and conservation of the site
- Days of service for physical site maintenance
- Research and writing about life stories about the people buried in Geer Cemetery
- Locating descendants of those buried in Geer Cemetery
- Hosting events to bring awareness to the historic site
