The 2024 Durham CROP Hunger Walk is scheduled for Sunday, April 2. Volunteers are needed to assist with the walker education programs that are offered in the hour prior to the Walk starting.
Volunteers are asked to meet at the JB Duke statue in front of Duke Chapel at 1:00 p.m. for orientation and setup, then participate in the educational activities from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., after which they will be free to leave or to stay and participate in the Walk.
They will be asked to work at tables or to make brief presentations to groups of the walkers. All materials are provided. These are fun activities that many NCCU students have enjoyed in the past. Please register and include a cell number to reach you on the day of the event.
Student volunteers will engage in one or more of the following activities:
- Roving through the groups of waiting walkers and making hunger/justice presentation [2 teams of 4 people each (8 total: 2 teams of 4 each)
- Roving through the groups of waiting walkers and making a “Budget Rope” presentations. (1 team of 2 people)
- Helping walkers send a “I am a hunger voter” message to their U.S. Rep via their on social media platform using whiteboard, coupled with letters to sign for those who don't do social media. (4 or more people)
- Setting up and running a sack race activity showing inequity of wealth and food distribution (2 people)
- Face Painting. (2 people)
These activities require students who are outgoing and comfortable with engaging people they do not know. Typical walkers being engaged are usually friendly and interested in the presentations.
