Liberty Arts is seeking volunteers to help out during our upcoming Third Friday event. There will be numerous creative workshops that will require the help of volunteers to assist the instructors. We will specifically need help with our cyanotype printmaking workshop and drawing activity table. We also may need assistance with set up, clean up, and a bit of documentation for social media. Join Liberty Arts for a night of artmaking, poetry, hearts and beats in Durham Central Park! Everyone is invited to celebrate creativity, community and connection. Let’s find out how much we heart Durham through love in art!
The party starts at the BC Remedy / Measurement Inc. Building, 423 Morris St., in what we hope will be the new home for Liberty Arts, a community arts education center.
Express Your Love: Learn to draw a picture of Major the Bull and craft your own love letter to Durham. (Love Durham, by Discover Durham in partnership with Downtown Durham, Inc., encourages us to show our Durham pride out loud.
Music: DJ MARRS will spin a mix of classic and modern tracks for a good, lovin’ vibe.
Art Exhibition: Solo show featuring the fine jewelry and metalwork of Liberty Arts member Heather Pinnix.
Scratch Block Workshop: Carve designs into blocks of resin-bonded sand. An hour later, watch your creation become a work of art during an aluminum pour in the Liberty Arts Foundry. $100 per block. Reservation required. Sign up now!
Cyanotype Printmaking Workshop: In collaboration with salt mark studios. Learn to create your own cyanotype - a mini print on paper that can become a heartfelt collage or pocket journal. Haiku Poetry Workshop: Learn to write haiku poetry with Crystal Simone Smith, a poet, indie-publisher and educator.
Art Shop: Take home your own glass heart made by Liberty Arts artisans.
Sparks Fly: Watch Liberty Arts artists pour aluminum to create beautiful works of art at the Liberty Arts Foundry, around the corner from the BC Remedy Building inside Durham Central Park.
